Investigators with the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s office continue to research circumstances surrounding the deaths of Kenneth Starnes and his mother Nancy Starnes, which took place on Sept. 23 in the Rushmere section of the county. A few days later, two suspects were arrested and charged in the crimes.

On Oct. 4, Sharon Galvin of Stonehouse Lane in Smithfield was arrested on a charge of having stolen property of the Starnes in her residence. She was released on her own recognizance, and an arraignment is set for Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 8:30 a.m., in Isle of Wight County District Court.

Department spokesman Lt. Tommy Potter told The Tidewater News that an informant later told investigators that Galvin had a trap door on her back porch where more property could be found.

Potter announced via a press release on Thursday that numerous search warrants were sought and carried out at her house. Fourteen rifles or shotguns that belonged to the Starnes were also recovered.

“After careful review of additional information garnered over the last week, Galvin has been charged with one additional felony and one misdemeanor charge,” he stated.

On Wednesday, she was arrested for conspiracy to commit a felony and for obstruction of justice. Galvin was released on bond by the Magistrate. In addition, a 17-year-old female — also of Stonehouse Lane — has been charged. Juvenile petitions were sought charging her with possession of stolen firearm, possession of stolen property with the intent to sell and for conspiracy to commit a felony. A detention hearing took place on Thursday, and the juvenile was remanded to Chesapeake Juvenile Services.

Potter added that investigators continue to aggressively pursue all circumstances pertaining to the Starnes’ deaths, as well as the theft of items from the home during this home invasion and double homicide.
