Hinton Joseph Vick Sr.

EMPORIA — Hinton Joseph Vick Sr., 94, passed away on Wednesday, Sept, 27, 2017, in Southampton Memorial Hospital, East Pavilion in Franklin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Mattox Vick, and his parents, Arthur Davis Vick and Minnie Bell Bryant.
He is survived by one daughter, Jane V. Barnes (Dudley) of Courtland; two sons, H.J. Vick Jr. (Pam) of Emporia, and Bill Vick of Capron; one brother, Henry Vick of Drewryville; one sister, Lois Garrett of Georgia; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Hinton was a retired farmer and a WWII Army veteran, where he served as a medic.
He was a member of Adams Grove Baptist Church, a charter member of Adams Grove Ruritan Club for over 60 years, and a charter member of Adams Grove Hunt Club. He especially enjoyed the Adams Grove Hunt Club’s annual meeting, where they served steamed oysters, and spending “porch time” with his special cat, Tiger.
The funeral was on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m., in Echols Funeral Home Chapel; the Rev. Tom Williams and Bill Harrison officiated.
The family received friends there from 1 p.m. until service time. Interment followed in Mattox Family Cemetery, 6189 Southampton Parkway, Emporia.
