Drivers at the Courtland Interchange should expect extended, intermittent delays lasting at least 20 minutes from Monday, Oct. 2 through 4 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on U.S. 58 west (Southampton Parkway) at 58 Business (Jerusalem Road.)
Crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation will require lane closures on Southampton Parkway at Jerusalem Road to install drainage culverts for ongoing improvements at the Courtland Interchange project. VDOT advises drivers to plan an alternate route.Additionally, VDOT has announced that consecutive, alternating lane closures on U.S. 58 will continue for the week of Oct. 2 through 6 as follows:
- The section of U.S. 58 between Old Bridge Road (Route 742) and Shady Brook Trail (Route 650) will have alternating lane closures starting at 6 p.m. on Oct. 2 and ending no later than noon on Oct. 6.
- The section of U.S. 58 between Old Bridge Road and Meherrin Road (58 Business) will have alternating lane closures starting at 7 a.m. Oct. 2 and ending no later than 8 p.m. Oct. 6.
The purpose of the Courtland Interchange project is to eliminate the existing signalized intersection. Improvements will consist of two bridges on a realigned Route 742 and two roundabouts between the realigned Route 742 and Business 58. Three ramps will be constructed to connect the mainline (U.S. 58) to the roundabouts to complete the interchange. Construction began in March of 2016, and the Courtland Interchange Project has a fixed completion date of December 2018.
