Our neighbors need our help, too

As most of you are aware, this country has not been the only recent victim of nature’s overwhelming strength. As Texas, Louisiana and Florida are rebuilding after Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, our neighbors further south have been enduring catastrophes no less horrific.

Last week, Puerto Rico — an American territory — was devastated by Hurricane Maria. For example, online reports show that the country’s entire energy infrastructure is down. Roads were also ripped by the Category 4 hurricane, making efforts to get help to residents even more difficult.

Also this past week and earlier this month, Mexico had been hit by powerful earthquakes — one of which was a magnitude 7.1 — which have resulted in the deaths of over 300 people at last count.

All that’s stated to explain why we’re asking you to dig a little deeper in your wallet and pocketbook to aid those people who have been stunned.

Just as you have supported Texans and Floridans, our fellow Americans in Puerto Rico and the citizens of Mexico need aid from anywhere and everywhere. We urge you to consider helping however you can, whether it’s through monetary donations to reliable agencies such as Red Cross or UNICEF, or sending food, clothing, toiletries and other supplies via your church or civic group.

None of us are immuned from nature’s strength, and when we work together afterward, we recover sooner and better.
