Southampton High School’s boys cross country team finished first with a score of 26 during a meet  on Thursday, Sept. 14 at the high school. Other teams in attendance included Northampton – Eastern Shore, which finished with a score of 74, ARGS, which finished with a score of 76, Greensville, 105, and Park View, 110.

The boys team was led by Dale Vick, who took third place; Luke Foreman, who took fourth place; Cole Bocc, fifth; Noah South, sixth; Trevor Cook, eighth; Trevor Harrell, 10th; and Robert Robertson, 11th. The team had 11 of the first 17 runners finish the rase.

The boys team had previously won both of their previous meets, one at Park View on Aug. 23 and the other at Greensville on Aug. 30.

Southampton’s girls cross country team also competed at the meet on Sunday, finishing second. Previously, the girls had won their first meet at Park View and were second at Greensville.

“We have a small girls team this year, with six varsity runners and three eighth grade runners,” said Southampton’s head cross country coach Scott Edwards on Monday. “The girls team is led by Brianna Whitmore, who is the only top seven returner from last year.

She finished the race in fifth place. She had finished the previous two races in one of the top three spots, but had a rough day yesterday.”

However, Southampton has another large boys team this year, he added, with 30 high schoolers and two eighth graders on the team. The boys team has not lost to a district opponent in the last three years.

Top returners from last year’s district champions include sophomores Dale Vick, Trevor Cook, Noah South, Luke Foreman, Cole Cobb and Miles Beale; junior Luke Piferi; and senior Robert Robertson.
