Rose G. Newsome

WINDSOR — Rose Garner Newsome, 66, passed away on Sept. 16, 2017, in her home surrounded by her family.
Rose was born on Feb. 19, 1951, and was a daughter of the late Callie and Ethel Louise Saunders Garner, and was also predeceased by her sisters, Hazel Dawn Joyner and Evelyn Wray Tetterton; two sisters-in-law, Romine Rita Newsome and Jean Carol McWilliams; and her father and mother-in-law, Sidney C. Newsome and Helen Burgess Newsome.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Sidney C. Newsome Jr.; two sons, Sidney Michael Newsome and wife, Katrice; and Kenneth Callie Newsome and wife, Allison; grandchildren, Christian Newsome, Landon Newsome, Harper Newsome and Jonathon Newsome; nieces, Judy Stallard (Charles), Beverly Plyler (Tim). Laurie “Mickey” Whisenant (Scott) and Deborah “DeeDee” Stiles; nephews, Keith Joyner (Julie), David Joyner (Sherri); great-nieces, Lisa Edwards (Kent), Missy Griffin (David), Shannon Bryan (T. W.), Elizabeth Stiles, Kimberly Plyler, Amber Stiles; great-nephews, Jeff Whisenant, Chris Whisenant, Bryan Edwards, Justin Plyler, Laine Stiles and Ben Griffin; great-great-nieces and nephews, Jakob Edwards, Skyler Bryan, T.W. Bryan, Adrienne Parker, Brianna Parker. Amiyah Stiles and Bentley Stiles.
Rose was a 1969 graduate of Southampton High School, a 1972 graduate of Suffolk Beauty Academy and graduated from ECPI’s Medical Careers Institute in 2004.
Rose was a licensed cosmetologist and instructor. She was a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) (AAMA). She had been a block scheduler for Dr. Pezzella in the Spine Center at Bon Secours Lakeview Medical Center.
Rose had also driven a school bus for Isle of Wight Academy for 17 years.
Rose was a member and former Sunday School teacher at Windsor Baptist Church. She was a very caring person who always enjoyed helping other people. Although her family meant the world to her, she always found time to help anybody in need no matter the situation. She never turned anyone away from her home and her love.
The celebration of life and gathering of family and friends will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, in Wright Funeral Home, 206 S. 4th Ave, Franklin.
