Two former Lady Broncos continue to score on the soccer fields of their respective universities. Franklin High School staff recently caught up with 2017 graduates Kayla Powell, who now attends Stratford University, and Lauren Causey, who now attends Regent University.

Lauren Causey walked on the Regent University girls’ soccer team this fall.

With 18 goals, Kayla is the all-time leading scorer for Franklin.

Powell, who holds the record as Franklin’s all-time leading scorer with 18 goals, committed to play soccer for Stratford’s Lady Cardinals while still attending FHS last spring. During her time at FHS, she started for the Lady Broncos all four years at multiple positions, mostly midfield, and also made All Conference.

Causey walked on Regent’s soccer team this fall, having started all four years at FHS at fullback.

She also made All Conference during her time at FHS.

This school year, FHS once again is fielding a full team. Last year, FHS had 26 girls on their roster.

Soccer Coach Christopher Gorgei said he hopes to continue the trend of having FHS girls play at the collegiate level, and that this year, there will be club girls playing for the Lady Broncos, which should make for a much stronger team.
