Floritta T. Shaw

FRANKLIN — Floritta T. Shaw of Fairview Drive departed this life to claim her eternal rest and peace on Sept. 7, 2017, while a resident in East Pavilion. She was born on Dec. 3, 1946, in Marion, South Carolina.

Floritta spent her life in service to others, especially the disabled and elderly. Highlights of her career after completing her education, included managing a large group home for the mentally challenged, providing in-home care for the elderly “little men” and “little ladies.” She also worked as a private duty sitter at The Village at Woods Edge and East Pavilion Convalescent Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Flora Brown and Evan Shedrick; sisters, Cary Mae Brown and Bessie Graves; brothers, Evan Shedrick Jr. and James Brown.

Floritta is survived by her sisters, Amanda Richardson and Valerie Shedrick; brothers, Walter Manuelle and Barry Shedrick; special cousin, Arthur Rice; nieces, nephews’ and a very special group of close friends in the Franklin area.

Her family and friends wish to thank the staffs of Hospice of Virginia and East Pavilion for their compassionate, gentle and excellent care since April.

On the day of service, her remains will rest in church for viewing by 9 a.m. The service celebrating Floritta’s life will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, in First Baptist Church, 318 Hall St., with the Rev. William Bellamy delivering the message of comfort; The Rev. Dr. D.S. Riddick II is the host pastor. The interment will be in Southview Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
