The Lady Indians opened up on Wednesday in district play at Appomattox Regional Governor’s School in Petersburg. We are off to a great start defeating ARGS in straight sets with set scores of 25-8, 25-2 and 25-6.

The team had a strong service game with 22 aces altogether. Hannah Bradshaw and Emma Drake led the team in kills with 4 each. Ashlyn Edwards and Jamey Bunn each had 5 assists.

The Indians have our varsity home opener with a regional match up against Colonial Heights on Wednesday, Aug. 30, at 5:30 p.m. Both JV and Varsity will travel to Windsor on Thursday, Aug. 31, to face the Lady Dukes.

I have high hopes for the team this year. Last year we went farther than any other team making it to the regionals, but losing in a tough match against Tabb 13-15 in the fifth set. The girls think about that game a lot and are using it as motivation to go even further this year.

Senior Captain Emma Drake said, “Coming off of such a strong season last year, we were all anxious for this upcoming season. Only losing three seniors last year and gaining more of the junior class we are ready to accomplish even more than we did last year.

“All the girls are very determined to make this a great season. With a strong game scrimmage against Tabb and a strong win against the Governor’s school, we are all eager to see how far this season will take us.”

Senior Captain Madison Wright said, “In tonight’s game against ARGS, we were able to test run some faster plays.

“As a team we focused on critiquing and minimizing our errors. The first game of our season was a success and I’m hoping we continue to play this well.”

Senior Captain Ashlyn Edwards said about the upcoming season, “I cannot wait to see where the season will take this team with all the talent we have.”
