FRANKLIN — Elizabeth Shoop Dixon Brooks, 88, widow of Edward Harrington Brooks Jr., died peacefully in her sleep on Aug. 20, 2017.
She was born in Suffolk, Virginia, the only child of George Brownrigg Dixon and Elizabeth Shoop Dixon.
She was predeceased by her beloved son, Paul Harrington Brooks.
Mrs. Brooks (Betty) was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Called “Tootie” by her grandchildren (and their friends) and great-grandchildren, she made their every visit special by showering them with love and affection.
Mrs. Brooks was a proud graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority.
A member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Franklin, Mrs. Brooks was a former member of the Courtland United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, choir member, Circle Leader, President of the Women of the Church and Board Member. She was also a former member of the Franklin Garden Club and the Southampton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Mrs. Brooks is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Brownrigg Brooks Jones; her son-in-law, Thomas G. Jones IV; her granddaughter, Elizabeth Brownrigg Jones Snow and husband, Robert James Snow; and her grandson, Thomas Chewning Jones. She is also survived by her two great-grandchildren, John Radspinner Snow and Elizabeth Harrington Snow.
The care and kindness shown to her by the staff at the Village at Wood’s Edge, the Comfort Keepers and dear friend Eliza Lewis will always be remembered and appreciated.
The memorial service will be at 2 p.m on Friday, Aug. 25, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Franklin with the Rev. Ben R. Duffey officiating.
