BRANCHVILLE
The operator of a four-wheel all-terrain vehicle sustained critical injuries resulting from a single-vehicle accident on Tuesday morning. This occurred on private property off of Joyner Road near Branchville.

This information comes from Maj. Gene Drewery, spokesman for the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were alerted to the accident at approximately 10:54 a.m.

Drewery said that the deputies have not yet completed their official report on the incident yet, but it appeared that the accident occurred when the operator of the ATV ran into a cable that was stretched across a path.

The Boykins Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene and transported the injured person to the Newsoms Volunteer Fire Station’s Helipad. From there, the person was airlifted by Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance to a regional trauma center.

The name, age and sex of the injured person remain unknown to The Tidewater News. This is an ongoing story and more details will be provided as they are released.
