SUFFOLK
The Southampton-Sussex Mustang all-star team has earned a trip to the PONY Baseball sectional tournament after cruising to a district title in Suffolk this past weekend. After an opening-round 14-2 win over Western Branch in the double elimination tournament, S-S followed up with a resounding win over Western Tidewater, outscoring their opponents 17-6.
Western Tidewater was able to regroup and make it into the championship game, but S-S once again proved to be the dominant team and steam-rolled Western Tidewater 28-6. The team’s opening round game in the sectional tournament against Great Neck was to be played Tuesday night in Southern Chesapeake after press deadline.
The tournament, which also includes the teams from Greenbrier, Western Tidewater and Southern Chesapeake will conclude with the championship game on Friday night.
