SMITHFIELD
On June 10, the Franklin/Southampton (Virginia) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Inc. Silhouettes became the 15th Silhouettes Chapter in the Eastern Province. This district includes chapters from Virginia, Maryland, District of Columbia and Bermuda. The men of the chapter hosted a dinner for the occasion at Sista’s Café in Smithfield. After dinner, chapter officers were installed and the official chartering was conducted by National Financial Secretary Shirley Pinckney.

William N. Pinckney, who serves as the National and Eastern Province Silhouette liaison, facilitated the official pinning of the Silhouettes. Keith Nichols of the local Kappas is the liaison between the fraternity and the new chapter.

Under the leadership of the Polemarch, the Kappas were in unanimous agreement to support the chartering of the Silhouette Chapter.

“This is one of the most outstanding accomplishments of our chapter since it was chartered,” said Polemarch Larry Blunt Sr. “We appreciate the support of our Silhouettes and have always depended on them to add the extra touch of ‘Kappa Class’ to our activities and events. We are so proud of them working together to help us maintain our chapter’s flagship status.”

The purpose of the Silhouette organization is to serve as the official auxiliary to the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. In addition to functioning within the guidelines of the Eastern Province and national organization of Kappa Silhouettes, the ladies provide community service and enjoy the fellowship and company of each other.

Concerted planning to create the chapter began at the onset of the Polemarch Blunt’s second term, said Dr. MeChelle S. Blunt, who was installed as the chapter’s president.

“The chapter consists of eight members who are wives and widows of Kappas,” she continued. “All of us have different interest and skill sets. We look forward to continuing to support the vision and mission of the noble men of The Franklin/Southampton Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.”

Those other Silhouettes are Yvette Nichols, vice president; Regina Zollicoffer, treasurer; Felicia Blow, secretary and historian; Effie King, parliamentarian; and Diane Harris, chaplain; Ashley Harris and Bessie Williams.
