Towns to host Fourth of July festivities

WINDSOR
The following localities will host Fourth of July festivities on Tuesday:
- Windsor: The Town of Windsor will hold its annual Independence Day celebration beginning at 5 p.m. Church Street will be closed from the intersection at Route 460 to the entrance to Windsor High School, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Handicap parking will be available in the Duke Street parking lot, accessible from Court Street to A Street to Duke Street.
Events on Church and Duke streets will include music by “Island Boy” from 6 to 9:30 p.m., an antique car show and awards from 5 to 8 p.m., children’s inflatables and activities from 5 to 7:30 p.m., a children’s patriotic parade starting at Windsor High School at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and fireworks at dark. Attendees are asked to bring a dessert to share and to bring a chair or towel. The timing of events may be moved up if inclement weather is approaching. No pets allowed.
- Newsoms: A celebration for July 4th will be held on that day in Newsoms beginning with a parade lining up at the Newsoms Baptist Church between 4 and 4:30 p.m. The parade begins at 5 o’clock. It will travel down South Main Street; go past the Methodist Church, cross the railroad track onto North Main. The parade will then turn around at the intersection of North Main and General Thomas Highway.
Spectators will get to see it twice as the parade will follow the same route on the return trip.
Free hot dogs, chips, corn on the cob, watermelon, desserts and drinks will be served behind the Ruritan Building following the parade. Donations will be accepted. The Shiloh Band will perform for people to enjoy their music while eating. Bring a lawn chair.
There will be games for the children to enjoy. At approximately 8 p.m. an old-timer’s softball game will take place on the Newsoms ball field, so bring your gloves and enjoy playing ball again this year.
