Isle of Wight making changes in school administrators, staff

Isle of Wight County Schools announced on Tuesday afternoon several administrative changes in preparation for the upcoming school year as “Superintendent Dr. Jim Thornton continues to strengthen the leadership teams at the school level,” according to Lynn Briggs, spokeswoman.

Laura Sullivan will serve as the new principal of Windsor High School. Sullivan comes to Isle of Wight County from Brooke Point High School in Stafford, where she has served as assistant principal since 2014. Prior to that, she was a middle school English teacher in Stafford since 2008. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English and Master of Arts in teaching from Christopher Newport University. She received her Master’s of Education degree in administration and supervision from Liberty University.

Dawn Carroll will join the staff of Carrollton Elementary School as their new assistant principal. Carroll has been with Isle of Wight County Schools since 1996 as an English and Reading intervention teacher at both Georgie Tyler Middle School and Windsor High School, and is the instructional coach at Carrsville Elementary. Carroll has a Bachelor of Science in interdisciplinary studies, a Master of Science in education and an education specialist degree from ODU.

Matthew Johnson will be joining Hardy Elementary as assistant principal. Johnson has been with Isle of Wight County Schools since 2005 as a teacher at Westside Elementary. He received a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from Edinboro University and a Master of Education in education administration and supervision from Regent University.

“I welcome the new building administrators to our leadership team,” said Thornton. “I believe these individuals will continue moving the division forward as we focus on improving the educational experience for every child in all of our schools.”

Other administrative moves for the 2017- 2018 school year are:

Zachary Haney will move from assistant principal at Westside Elementary to assistant principal at Windsor High School.

Nicole Stephens will be moving from assistant principal at Windsor High School to assistant principal at Smithfield High School.

Colleen Loud will move from assistant principal at Hardy Elementary to assistant principal at Westside Elementary.
