FRANKLIN
Tamara Sterling, Franklin City Public Schools’ new superintendent, was the guest speaker at Friday’s Rotary Club meeting, held at the Franklin Presbyterian Church on Lee Street.

She discussed her goals for the coming school year, which include getting to know Franklin’s system, looking at the curriculum from top to bottom to understand why students aren’t performing where they should be, to have the division be fiscally sound and to build community partners.

“The school shouldn’t just be a school, it should be a home for all sorts of community resources,” she said.

School Board chairman Bob Holt said Sterling is no stranger to tough assignments, having at one time served as a principal in a Southside Chicago school.

Board member Ron Rusnak said that Sterling has strong expertise in school turnaround.
