“What three colors bring you joy?”

That’s the question that artist Sarah CB. Guthrie will be asking people tonight, June 9, at 6:30 during her solo exhibition in the Rawls Museum Arts in Courtland.

Born in London, England, but now living in Seattle, Washington, the artist said she’ll make paintings on-site in response to her audience.

According to her biography, Guthrie has exhibited in award-winning shows elsewhere in Washington, D.C., Virginia, Seattle, Washington, Maryland and North Carolina. Her work is in private collections in this country as well as her birthplace.

She earned an MFA in visual arts at the Vermont College of Fine Arts, an MA from The George Washington University, and a BA from Davidson College. She and her husband, a retired Marine, and their dog, Mory, live in Seattle.

“A lot of my friends and family have had some really difficult times in the past few months and I wanted to do something to help,” said Guthrie.

So she asked her social media community “What three colors bring you joy?”

The response was overwhelming. So she looked at the answers and began making 5” x 7” paintings, and then posted them on to social media site.

Guthrie stated that an 11-year old fan named Duncan described the paintings as “Amazon combined with Picasso.”

“I loved his insight into this series — he completely understood the on-demand nature of this series,” she said. “I make custom art by hand that brings people joy.”

Better still, come to the show tonight; the exhibition continues through Aug. 4.
