Charles Holt

COURTLAND — Charles Holt, 71, passed away on June 4, 2017, in Southside Regional Medical Center.
Charles was born in Sedley, a son of the late James Patrick and Eunice Ellis Holt. He was also predeceased by a stepdaughter, Brooke Powell; his twin brother, Carl Holt; and his in-laws, Roy and Golden Griffin.

Charles was a graduate of Southampton High School, an Army veteran where he served in Germany and France, and was a retired papermaker from International Paper Company after 42 years of service.
He attended Radiant Life, formerly Suffolk Pentecostal Holiness Church, and was a member of B&B Hunt Club.
He was an honorary member of the Courtland Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as captain, assistant chief and instructor.
Charles was a loving father and loved his grandchildren dearly and his hometown of Courtland.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 46 years, Teressa Griffin Holt, whom he loved more than anything; a daughter, Lisa Holt Lance; a son, Charles Derrick Holt; a stepson, James “Bo” Powell; seven grandchildren, Cody and Dustin Lance, Bailey Holt, Randy, Michael and Charles Powell and Katherine Bailey Woolard; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ann H. Sanford, Patsy H. Watson, Carol H. Billups (Milton) and Donna Holt; a sister-in-law, Nita G. Ballard (J.W.); and brother-in-law Roy “Andy” Griffin Jr. (Sandy).
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 8, in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Don Milner and Pastor Matt Kidd officiating. Burial with military and fireman honors will be at Riverside Cemetery, Courtland. Charles will ride one last time on a Courtland Vol. Fire Dept. fire truck leading the funeral procession, which will also pass his home of 46 years in Courtland.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and suggests that memorial donations be made to the Courtland Volunteer Fire Dept. or Radiant Life.
