FRANKLIN — Jewel Holt Nolte passed away at sunrise on Wednesday morning, May 31, 2017.
She had been battling Frontotemporal Dementia. Jewel joined her husband, Michael Nolte, who passed away on Feb. 7 of this year, and her father who passed away in August of 2011.
Jewel was born on Dec. 12, 1951, to Fenton B. Holt Sr. and Doris Blythe Holt.
She is survived by her mother, Doris B. Holt; and her siblings, Judy Dundalow (Joe), Fenton Bryant Holt Jr. (Debra), Vincent P. Holt (Connie), June H. Perry (Chris), JoAnn West (Martha) and Raymond West. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she adored.
She graduated Franklin High School in 1970, and earned a bachelor’s degree from Longwood College and taught for several years before meeting her husband, Michael, on a blind date. They were married in May of 1978.
Jewel earned a second degree at Bowie State University and obtained a CPA, which led to a position at a top 10 accounting firm in Washington, D.C.
Jewel and Mike were married for 39 years and lived in Richmond, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Tampa and Atlanta before returning to their home state of Virginia.
Jewel and Mike loved the beach, fishing, boating and travel. Wherever Jewel lived she devoted her life to helping others. She volunteered with Vistas in Los Angeles and Assistance League of Atlanta.
She lived life to the fullest and loved caring for family, friends and those in need.
Her generous heart and loving spirit brought a ray of sunshine into each and every life she touched.
The memorial service will be on Sunday June 4, in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Martha Pittenger and Wayne Blythe officiating.
Visitation with family and friends will begin at 1 p.m. prior to the service.
A special thanks to all of the caregivers at Asa’s Neighborhood who cared for Jewel during her struggle.
