Lady Dukes capture Tri-Rivers District crown

On Thursday night, the Lady Dukes of Windsor High School swept the Sussex Central High School Tigers 12-2 and 13-1 in a double header to win the Tri-Rivers District title. Going into the game the Dukes held a one-game lead in the district over rival Park View. After sweeping the Lady Tigers the Dukes captured the outright title, their first since 2012.

In game one the Dukes were led by junior pitcher E.J. Bankson, who went three innings striking out six and giving up zero walks, zero hits and zero runs. Junior Hailey Delgado came in as relief to finish off the game. Camryn Pagan led the Dukes’ offense with five RBIs on a double and home run. Junior Tori Queen picked up a pair of RBIs in the game, and Madison O’Brien and Bankson each picked up an RBI in the game.

In game two the Dukes were led by sophomore pitcher Edythe Carr, who pitched a scoreless three innings. Carr struck out three batters and didn’t give up a hit. Sophomore Camryn Pagan made her first appearance of the season on the mound as she struck out one to wrap up the win for the Dukes. Kayce Gray lead the Dukes in game number two with four RBIs on a home run, a double and two singles. Tori Queen and MaKayla Burks each picked up two RBIs. Lexy Massey, Olivia Holmes, Alyssa Funai, Shelby Beaber and Hailey Delgado each picked up one RBI a piece.

With the wins today, the Lady Dukes finish the regular season 14-2, ranked first in the upcoming Conference 41 tournament, ranked first overall in the 1A Eastern Region and are the Tri-Rivers District champions.

The Dukes will begin Conference 41 tournament play next Tuesday, May 23, at home against either Surry or Sussex Central. The game is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
