CAPRON
There were no injuries reported as the result of two house fires on Douglas Drive off the 18000 block of Southampton Parkway on Friday night. This information comes from Capt. Matt Nixon of the Courtland Volunteer Fire Department.
The call came in at approximately 9:30, said Nixon, adding that Chief Brian Futrell of the CVFD, whose team was the first to arrive on the scene, had assistance from Capron’s unit. The chief also requested aid from the Drewryville Volunteer Fire Department on seeing one of the two homes fully engulfed by flames.
The fire had spread to a neighboring house, but that was not completely ablaze. Crews were able to stop the spread on the second building.
Any residents who were at home were outside the buildings, Nixon said, adding that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The fire was brought under control at 9:59 p.m.
Cindy Darden, the Disaster Program specialist for the area Red Cross said the agency was called to assist the family. Money was provided for lodging and recovery. The family was also referred to other organizations that can help beyond what the Red Cross can do financially.
Darden added that the Red Cross will follow up with the family and evaluate what their needs are at that time.
