Police look for shooting suspect

City police are seeking the whereabouts of a Franklin man suspected of shooting into an occupied vehicle early Sunday morning. This information comes from Capt. Tim Whitt, public information officer for the police department.

Police responded to South Street at Oak Street in reference to a subject firing a gun into an occupied vehicle. The driver of the car, a 25-year-old Franklin woman and her 24-year-old male passenger stated that they were driving east on South Street when they saw Sanchez Michael Artis stepping into the roadway at South Street and Wilson Street. They added that Artis was brandishing a gun.

The female stopped and words were exchanged. She then accelerated away at which time Artis reportedly fired several shots at the car striking the passenger side door. No one in the vehicle was injured.

Officers recovered three .45 caliber cartridge casings from the scene, and then obtained warrants for Artis for shooting into an occupied vehicle, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and destruction of property.

Artis, 30, of the 700 block of Chestnut Street, is believed to be in possession of a .45 caliber pistol and should be considered armed and dangerous.
