COURTLAND — Ruth Perkins Vaughan, 90, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2017, in Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, with her family by her side.

Ruth P. Vaughan

Mrs. Vaughan was born on June 17, 1926, in Lunenburg County, Virginia, to the late C.B. and Lucy Higgins Perkins, and was the widow of Rev. Durward Vaughan, her husband of 66 years. She was also predeceased by a son-in-law, Carl Holt, and two brothers, Maurice and E.H. “Bookie” Perkins.
Left to cherish her memory are four daughters, Ann Vaughan-West (Donnie), Jenny V. Holt, Wanda V. Davis (William) and Linda V. Barnes (Kirby); two sisters, Irma P. Edmundson (J. Ray) and Jean P. Gilliland (Bill); seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She remained faithful to her Lord and served alongside Durward at Clarksbury Baptist Church in Boykins for over 40 years. Always a devoted wife and beloved mother and grandmother, she will be remembered as a friend and a homemaker who loved cooking, gardening and flowers. But most of all Ruth and Durward were a loving couple that were “Nannie” and “Papa.”
The private graveside service was at 11 a.m. on Friday April 28, in the Capron Cemetery with the Rev. Wilson Conwell officiating.
The family received friends at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, on Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and suggests that memorial donations be made to the Clarksbury Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 172, Boykins, VA 23827.
