FRANKLIN — Mrs. Emma Mae Watson Hunt of Smiths Ferry Road departed this life on April 20, 2017, while a patient at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk.
She was born in Isle of Wight County to Roger and Lovie Boone Watson on Oct. 23, 1934.
Mae was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, where she served on the Senior Usher Ministry. She prepared many meals at the Martin Luther King Recreation Center for the senior citizens while employed with Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia.
Mae was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Walter Hunt; sisters, Essie M. Cohens and Juanita Hall; and brothers, Jerry T. Watson and William E. Watson.
She is survived by one sister, Gladys Ernell Moseley; four brothers, Roger Watson Jr., Robert P. Watson, Jessie L. Watson and Jimmy Watson; nieces, nephews, cousins; and caregivers, Beulah Thorpe, Pamela Freeman, Ellen Mills and Joyce Lewis.
On the day of the service, her remains rested in church for viewing by 9 a.m. A service celebrating her life was at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 24, in Piney Grove Baptist Church, 1071 Carrsville Highway, Franklin, with the Rev. Delores Manley delivering the message of comfort. The committal and benediction were in Southview Cemetery.
A traditional service with dignity was conducted by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home Inc., 224 S. Main St.
