ISLE OF WIGHT
Three Isle of Wight Academy seniors signed contracts Monday morning declaring their intent to play sports for their respective colleges.

Scott Breeden Jr., who will attend Ferrum College in the town of Ferrum this fall, and Austin Elledge, who will attend Stratford University’s Newport News campus, both will play baseball, while Ashley Petroski, who will attend Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, will play volleyball. Breeden will major in business, Elledge will major in business management and Petroski will major in biology.

“We are proud of all of them and wish them the very best as they take this next step along the path to becoming the student athletes they aspire to become,” said IWA’s head varsity baseball coach, Ben Brown.

When asked about what influenced his decision to attend Ferrum College, Breeden said that he liked the small-town community of Ferrum and the college’s coaches. Elledge said that he chose Stratford to be able to stay close to home and because he could be a starter during his first year. Petroski said that she liked Chestnut Hill’s campus and that the school’s volleyball team was very welcoming.

“And it felt like home,” she added.

Breeden said that he has been playing baseball since age 4. Elledge said he had been playing since age 2 and Petroski said she started playing volleyball in the sixth grade. Breeden and Elledge are both from Smithfield. Petroski is from Suffolk.
