Winton, NC—Anthony Eden “Tony” Stephenson, 78, of 248 Tuscarora Beach Road, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017, in his home where he was surrounded by his family.
Mr. Stephenson was born in Hertford County on December 18, 1938, and was the son of the late Fred and Betty Ruth Long Stephenson. A retired maintenance superintendent from Union Camp Corp. in Franklin, VA where he worked for over 38 years. He had served in the United States Army, was a member of Winton Baptist Church, the Ahoskie Post of the American Legion, the Murfreesboro Masonic Lodge and the Roanoke Shrine Club. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was also the owner of Tunis Fishery, Inc.
Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Shirley Hoggard Stephenson; his daughter, Kimberly Stephenson-Glenn and husband Dwayne of Hillsborough; his sister, Bates King of Murfreesboro; and two grandchildren, Heather Stephenson-Glenn and Grant Stephenson-Glenn.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Winton Baptist Church and will be conducted by his former pastor, The Rev. Joseph Futrell. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and all other times at the residence.
