­IWA Chargers win over Alliance Christian Falcons, 34-0

Isle of Wight Academy racked up its highest run total of the season, defeating Alliance Christian 34-0 on April 4.

The Charger starters played only two innings and used three pitchers — Hunter Hayden, Nick Johnson and Josh Savage — making their first mound appearances of the year.

Hayden (1-0) earned the win for Isle of Wight, tossing two innings, allowing one hit, striking out five. Johnson threw two innings and Savage threw one to close out the win in a non-save situation.

Quincy Connor took the loss for Alliance, going 2-1/3 innings, allowing 24 runs, 18 hits, and walking one. IWA sent 16 batters to the plate in the first and 18 in the third.

Scott Breeden led the Chargers, going 5-for-6 with three singles, a double and a homer, driving in 7 runs. Austin Elledge went 4-for-5 with 8 RBI. Conner Soady made the most of his three plate appearances after subbing in for starter Dixon Mills, going 3-for-3 with 5 RBI.

Other homers for IWA came when Elledge went yard in the first inning and Mills homered in the second.

The win raised IWA’s record to 4-5, 2-3 in the Metro Athletic Conference. The Chargers return to action after spring break on Monday, April 17, versus Norfolk Christian. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
