FRANKLIN — Ann Daughtrey O’Brien, 89, passed away on April 8, 2017— two days shy of celebrating her 90th birthday — in Sentara Leigh Hospital, Norfolk, Virginia.

She was the widow of William Grantham “Bill” O’Brien, a former Franklin police chief and her husband of 63 years. Ann was born in Nansemond County, a daughter of the late Edwin Parker and Sadie Holland Daughtrey.
She was a graduate of Holland High School, and retired office manager of Franklin Concrete Products. Ann was a member of Franklin Congregational Christian Church.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Nell Story and Faye Turner, and three brothers, Thomas E. Daughtrey, Mills Parker Daughtrey and Raymond Daughtrey.
A deeply devoted wife and mother, she leaves to cherish her memory her beloved children: Constance Ann Griffin and her husband, Charles, of Windsor; and William G. O’Brien Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware; sister, Gladys Atkins of Midlothian; brother, Edwin Daughtrey Jr. of Franklin; grandchildren, Anne Marie Camden, Holly Griffin Kimberly Bunn and her husband, Brandon, Chad Myers and Wendy Myers; and great-grandchildren, Bryce Vincent Camden and Bradlee Elaine Bunn.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, in Wright Funeral Home, with the Rev. James H. Hyatt Jr. officiating. The burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday April 12, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home, and suggests memorials be made to Franklin Congregational Christian Church. www.wrightfuneralhome.org.
