Purvis’ walk-off gives Southampton Academy victory over Fuqua

RICHMOND
A walk-off single led Southampton Academy Lady Raiders past Fuqua School Lady Falcons 11-10 on Saturday. This was during the Strike Out Cancer Tournament, which was hosted by St. Catherine’s Academy & Collegiate School.

The game was tied at 10 with Southampton Academy batting in the bottom of the eighth when Megan Purvis singled off of Hannah Gray, driving in one run.

Both offenses were strong at the plate as Southampton Academy collected 15 hits and Fuqua 11.

The Lady Falcons captured the lead in the second inning. With one out in the second inning Sierra drove in one run when she singled.

Southampton Academy scored seven runs in the sixth inning. The Lady Raiders’ big inning was driven by a single by Kamryn Poole, a single by Mason Pope, a double by Kara Beth Poole, a error, and a single by Mallory Sharp.

Sharp, Avery Pope, Megan Purvis, Kellie Ferguson and Pope each collected multiple hits for Southampton Academy. Pope and Sharp all had three hits to lead Southampton Academy.

Lexie, Mary Grace and Brittany each collected multiple hits for Fuqua. Lexie went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Fuqua in hits.
