Lady Cougars, Broncos fight to the end

Both the Surry County High School Lady Cougars and the Franklin High School Lady Broncos went the distance during their match on Wednesday to determine who would win the match. The Lady Cougars won 5-4.

Playing on the tennis courts at Franklin High School, the teams entered the doubles matches with both schools having won three singles matches apiece. Needed to win the match is a total of five match wins.

The Lady Broncos’ No. 1 doubles team of Erin Karmilovich and Qwa’neshia Barnes won their match with a score of 8-6. Franklin’s No. 2 doubles team of Jada Barnes and DeAnna Freeman after being down came back, but went down 6-8.

The Lady Broncos’ last chance for a win was on the racquets of Ayanna Mabry and Sierra Newby. After opening with a 6-4 led the match ended up with an 8 all tie, which resulted in a tie-break to win the match. In the tie-breaker the Lady Broncos fought to the end, but went down in defeat.
