There are no reported injuries after high winds shredded the awning above two cars by the gas pumps at the Park ‘N’ Stop on South Street late Friday afternoon.
Store owner Jay Patel said he was at his other location on Second Avenue in downtown when an employee called to tell him what happened. Reportedly, both customers were in the store at the time the winds tore the metal. Later, the customers were able to leave the scene.
A crew from Baxter Brothers, which is based in Newsoms, was on site around 6:30 when this reporter arrived.
Patel, who has had the store for two years, said he’s hopeful that he’ll be reopen for business later in the evening.
