Windsor softball beats NSA, 5-2

WINDSOR
Windsor High School’s varsity softball team returned home on Wednesday to take on the Saints of Nansemond Suffolk Academy, and defeated them 5-2.

The Lady Saints jumped out early with a run in the top of the first inning on a wild pitch.

The Lady Dukes answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first inning. Sydney Carter lead off the Dukes’ first with a single and came around to score.

Cameron Pagan and E.J. Bankson also second in the bottom of the first to give the Lady Dukes a 3-1 lead. NSA added a run in the top of the third inning on a sacrifice fly to bring the Lady Saints within one run.

Windsor answered in the bottom of the fourth when Hailey Delgado scored from third on a wild pitch, putting the Dukes up by two once again.

Pagan added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth with a two-out double and scoring Carter from second, making the score 5-2. Junior pitcher Bankson pitched a complete game giving up seven hits, one earned run, one walk, and recorded four strikeouts.

The Lady Dukes were due back at home on Friday against Northumberland.
