James T. Cobb

GREENVILLE, N.C. — James Thomas “JT” Cobb, 92, died on Friday, March 24, 2017, at the Veteran’s Home in Kinston, North Carolina.
Mr. Cobb, the oldest son of the late Joseph Oscar and Flossie Peaden Cobb, was born on June 21, 1924, in Falkland, North Carolina. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army from 1944 to 1946. During this time he was assigned to the Command Headquarters of the United States Forces European Theater in Frankfurt, Germany.
Prior to entering the service, he graduated from Belvoir High School.
After the war, James earned a BS degree in mathematics from Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College) in Wilson, North Carolina. He taught mathematics for 31 years, beginning in 1951 at Belvoir Falkland High School and retiring from North Pitt High School.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his three brothers, Joseph Heber, Willie Hardy and Seber Franklin Cobb.
James is survived by his: wife of 65 years, Ethelene Peaden Cobb; two daughters, Linda Cobb Burkett and husband, Harold, of Franklin, Virginia; and Mary Anne Cobb of the home; two sons, James Thomas Cobb Jr. and wife, Teresa, and Edward Gary Cobb, from Greenville; four grandchildren, Amy Cobb Rice and husband, Neal; Jonathan Burkett and fiancée, Mika Mulligan; Rebecca Cobb Rossnagel and husband, Josh; and Kimberly Burkett Macedo and husband, Renato; and four great-grandchildren, Kyla, Hayden, Brylee and Laythan Rice.
The family received friends on Monday in Wilkerson Funeral Home from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
The graveside ceremony was on Monday at 2:30 p.m. in Pinewood Memorial Park with the Rev. Neal Rice officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220-3049; the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001; or a charity of one’s choice.
