A Southampton County man remains in custody without bond on charges of strangling another person and two counts of simple assault against a family member. This information comes from Lt. Camden Cobb of the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 6:57 p.m. on March 16, deputies responded to a call at a residence in the 36000 block of Seacock Chapel Road in reference to a domestic assault.
“During the course of the investigation it was determined that two assaults had occurred with two different victims and that one of the victims was choked for approximately 5-10 seconds after being assaulted,” Cobb reported. “Minor injuries to both parties were visible, but no one involved requested medical treatment.”
The lieutenant explained that a “simple assault” is defined as one where there is no disfiguring or permanent injury to the victim or any injury that would require medical treatment due to its severity.
The alleged offender is Westley Clear, who reportedly did not remain at the home after the assaults. He was later taken into custody without incident by deputies later that night. Clear was taken before a magistrate and did not receive a bond.
