RALEIGH, N.C. — Mary Ellen Amanda Dupree was born on Oct. 18, 1944, to Charles Allen Dupree and Ellen Amanda Morris at the Virginian Hospital in Suffolk (formerly Nansemond County), Virginia.

She succumbed to the ravages of cancer, and died on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina.
She was married to James Milton Snyder on July 17, 1971, at the High Street Methodist Church in Franklin, Virginia.
She was a loving and accomplished wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James Allen Snyder; and a half-sister, Francis Morris Simmons (maiden name Mixon).
She is survived by her husband, James; daughters, Susan Morris Hanson (Mark) and Dr. Ellen Amanda Snyder (David Rouse); and grandchildren William Henry Hanson, Ewan James Hanson, and Finley Dupree Rouse.
Arrangements are being handled by Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh.
The visitation was planned for 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, which was to be followed by the memorial service at 3 p.m., led by the Rev. Phillip Barton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in remembrance of Mary Ellen Snyder.
