Two dead in crash on U.S. 258

A single-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 258 (Smiths Ferry Road) near the intersection of state route 189 (South Quay Road) Wednesday morning has resulted in two fatalities according to Sgt. Michelle Anaya, a spokesperson for the Virginia State Police.

The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office contacted state police at approximately 6:25 a.m. to inform them of the crash, which they said included entrapments and a vehicle fire.

State troopers remain on the scene and the investigation is ongoing. At present, the cause of the accident has not been released.

The Virginia Department of Transportation has closed both the northbound and southbound lanes of Route 258 and is advising motorists to expect delays in the area and use an alternate route.
