FRANKLIN — Mr. Johnnie L. Pope Sr. of Cobb Street passed away on March 8, 2017, while a patient in Southampton Memorial Hospital.
He was born to Jimmie and Lucy Cutler Pope on April 28, 1926, in Southampton County.
Mr. Pope was a member of St. Luke A.M.E. Zion Church. He attended the public schools of Franklin, Virginia.
After 50 years of working in the construction industry, he retired as a Brick Mason. He was also a member of American Legion, Post 183 of Franklin, Virginia.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marion D. Pope; daughter, Sheila P. Myrick; son, Emmitt B. Pope; one grandchild, Courtney L. Pope; one sister; and five brothers.
He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Pope and Phyllis Pope; two sons, Johnnie Pope Jr. (Mirian) and Reggie Walloe (Tracey); 11 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
On the day of service, his remains will rest in the church for viewing by 11 a.m.
On Tuesday, March 14, his life will be celebrated at 1 p.m., East End Church of God, 410 E. St., Franklin, with the Rev. Dr. Joseph A. Perry delivering the message of comfort; Bishop S.D. Willis is the host pastor.
The committal and benediction will be held in Southview Cemetery.
A traditional service with dignity will be conducted by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home Inc., 224 S. Main St., Franklin.
