Police responded to a call in the 100 block of Langston Court in reference to a subject lying in the road. On arrival they found Donnell Runner, 35, unconscious and bleeding from his nose and ears. He was transported to an area trauma center where he was admitted for a head injury.

The investigation revealed that an unknown suspect approached Runner and, after a brief conversation, struck Runner knocking him to the ground. The suspect continued to punch and stomp on his head while he was on the ground defenseless.

The suspect was later identified and on Tuesday, Brian Elliot Meyers, 29, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding.

Meyers has been remanded to Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond.
