Character shown through compassion

How often have any of us driven past an accident or stranded car and thought, ‘I wonder if they need help?’ It’s a question that’s too often followed by pressing the gas pedal and racing away.

Without questioning the whys and wherefores of the accident they witnessed on Sunday afternoon, two men answered the question. They immediately stopped to help the driver, who was still in the overturned vehicle. Their assistance to free him continued even after rescue personnel arrived.

Michael Doering and Curtis Hamlin Jr. have already been thanked by the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, and we also want to salute the two men for their actions. That they would respond so quickly to helping another person in danger speaks to their exemplary character.

We could all take a lesson from them.
