FRANKLIN — Lucy Ann Worrell Crowder passed away at the Village at Woods Edge in Franklin, on Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at the age of 89.
She was a native of Courtland, Virginia, and the daughter of the late Herman and Mildred Worrell.
Lucy Ann graduated as a Registered Nurse from King’s Daughters Hospital. Most of her nursing career, she worked as an RN for the Navy Corp Relief Society.
She enjoyed spending time at Nags Head at “Sleepy’s Hollow,” and in her later years she enjoyed Bingo and country rides at the Village.
She was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church in Portsmouth, Virginia, and more recently enjoyed attending Vincent Grove United Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles L. “Sleepy” Crowder of 54 years. She was also predeceased by brother-in-laws, Robert B. Crowder and James E. Cogsdale; a sister-in-law, Jean Crowder; a niece, Kimberly Cogsdale Gurganus. Lucy Ann is survived by a sister, Natalie Cogsdale, of Newsoms.
She is also survived by four nieces and one nephew; Susan Crowder Cyr, Nancy Crowder Rogerson both of Suffolk; Lori Jean Cogsdale of Raleigh, North Carolina; and Ercelle Cogsdale Vann and James L. Cogsdale of Newsoms. She also leaves behind many great-nieces and nephews.
The family received friends at the Village at Woods Edge on Saturday, Jan. 28, from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
The graveside service was conducted by the Rev. Armand Jalbert at Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth, on Sunday, Jan. 29, at 3 p.m.
Loving Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
The family would like to thank the Village Staff and all Caretakers for their compassionate care given to her.
