The win ran the Chargers’ record to 9-5; they’re also 3-3 in the Metro Athletic Conference going into Monday night’s game at Alliance Christian, postponed from two weeks ago because of severe winter weather.

Averaging 18.1 points per game and near the top of the Metro scoring rankings, Baines rebounded with a solid scoring effort Saturday. The team’s second-leading scorer, Grant Worthy (9.6 points per game), was held to 3 points.

IWA jumped out to an early 11-7 lead against the visiting Kavaliers and expanded their advantage to 30-15 by halftime. Kenston managed but 2 points in the third quarter and 3 in the final stanza; the same stretch saw IWA score 23.

Thursday night, Baines was not as fortunate. The Chargers were dominated by Williamsburg Christian, the top team in the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Div. III, 75-37 in Williamsburg.

Baines was held to 3 points, which he didn’t obtain until 4:45 left in the third quarter on a three-point jumper. By the end of the first half, IWA had scored only 18 points to Williamsburg’s 43.

The Chargers were led by Casey’s 13 points. Williamsburg’s Clevon Greene, the conference’s leading scorer, had 25 for the Eagles. RaShawn Cook had 13; DaShawn Cook, 10.

The Chargers play three games this week: Monday at Alliance, Tuesday at Hampton Christian, and Friday, hosting Portsmouth Christian.
