Windsor Dukes welcome new football coach

Windsor High School welcomed Tyler R. Mosley as its new head football coach on Tuesday morning.

According to a statement from Principal Daniel Soderholm, Mosley brings “a plethora of athletic and coaching experiences that made him the best candidate for the head coach position.”

A native of Greenwood, South Carolina, he has over 23 years of coaching experience.

Tyler has always had a passion for all sports, especially football. He was a three sports performer at Greenwood High School, where he lettered in football, wrestling and track and field. He was an All-Region and All-State Defensive Lineman Selection in football and in wrestling his senior year of high school. Mosley won the 4A State Championship in wrestling in the heavyweight class.

Attending Hampton University on a full athletic scholarship, he was a four-year starter on the football team. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in applied science from Hampton in 1990, and became a graduate assistant coach for the Hampton University Football team. Mosley received his Master’s degree in business administration from Hampton University in 1994 and subsequently, began his teaching and coaching career with Isle of Wight County Public Schools. Mosley first coached football at Smithfield High School in the fall of 1995. Additionally, he coached football, wrestling and track at Smithfield from 1995-2007.

While at Smithfield High School, Mosley coached the offensive/defensive lines and became the defensive coordinator for the Varsity football team. Additionally, he served as head wrestling coach. While Mosley continued to teach at Smithfield High School, he became the defensive coordinator for Nansemond River High School football team in Suffolk from 2010-2014, and Maury High School in Norfolk from 2014-2016. This past season, he coached at Phoebus High School in Hampton.

Mosley has received several professional accolades including a two-time honoree of Smithfield High School Teacher of the Year and Bay River District Wrestling Coach of the Year. Additionally, he was a 2012 inductee of the Greenwood High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Soderholm stated, “Coach Tyler Mosley is a firm believer in developing a student-athlete academically, physically and emotionally. He looks forward to supporting the Windsor community by cultivating a football program of excellence at Windsor High School.”

Coach Mosley has a wealth of experience on the field and in the classroom that will serve our student-athletes well. We are eager to see the positive impact he will make in this role.”
