Chowan Hawks pull off win over Elizabeth City Vikings

The Chowan University Hawks fought back a surge by the Elizabeth City State University Vikings to pull off a 79-77 win in a barnburner game at the Helms Center. Playing on the campus of Chowan University on Saturday, the Hawks improved their record to 10-3 overall and 1-0 in northern division games of the CIAA.

The Hawks at one point were up by 15 points and held the lead for the entire game, but the Vikings didn’t want to go down quietly. With 3:59 remaining in the game, the Vikings connected on a 3-point basket to close the score to 73-66.

With: 38 on the clock and the Hawks up 74-70, the Vikings were forced to foul. The Hawks hit the remainder of their points from the foul line with 5 points.

The Hawks had five players in double figures. Leading in scoring was Marco Haskins with 21 points, Carlos Arroyo 14 points, Joe Goodwin 13 points, Jeremy Smith 12 points and Andrew Lopez 10 points.

The Vikings had three players in double figures. They were Jordan Jones with 24 points, John Maynor with 16 points and Kyree Marshall with 10 points.
