FRANKLIN — Carl Morris Lance, born on May 24, 1933, in McMinnville, Warren County, Tennessee, died on Jan. 8, 2017, at home after an extended illness, surrounded by family.

Carl was a dedicated public servant for the city of Franklin, Suffolk and the State of Virginia until the age of 83, receiving many awards for his service.

He served the country in the U.S. Air Force Security Service (USAFSS) 1954 to 1959 as a Russian Language Radio Intercept Operator.

He was the son of Fred Elisha Lance and Ruby Mae Junghans of McMinnville, and was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Ruth Cooper; his brother, Glenn Lance; and his sister, Betty Jean Lance.

He is survived by his son, Glenn M. Lance of Franklin, Virginia; his daughter, Barbara Lance Alldaffer and husband, Ronald, of Minnesota; and four grandchildren, Cody Lance, Dustin Lance, and their mother, Lisa Holt Lance; and Abby and Kathryn Alldaffer of Minnesota.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12, in Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Seal officiating. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
