Due to inclement weather, the Virginia Department of Transportation has postponed its public hearing on the South Quay Bridge project one week, and is now scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 18 at the Southampton County Office Center, 26022 Administrative Center Drive, Courtland.

VDOT has scheduled the public hearing to present their proposed plan for the replacement of the South Quay Bridge, also known as state route 189, over the Blackwater River in Southampton County and the city of Suffolk.

During the hearing, citizens will have the opportunity to review the project exhibits on display, meet with VDOT representatives and provide input. This will be an open-house format meeting with no formal presentation. Local media are invited to attend.

Citizens may provide oral and written comments at the hearing or submit them by Jan. 30, to Wali Zaman, P.E., Virginia Department of Transportation, 1700 North Main Street, Suffolk, or via email to wali.zaman@vdot.virginia.gov. Citizens are asked to reference “South Quay (Route 189) Bridge Replacement Comment” in the subject line.
