Newsoms Vice Mayor Joseph Stewart announced during the town council meeting on Monday night that he would be resigning. Stewart confirmed on Tuesday that he’s moving out of the town limits, which would disqualify him from holding office.

A resident of Newsoms since 2000, he said the resignation would become effective Feb. 1.

Mayor Vanless Worrell said that council will take no action until receiving a letter.

The next meeting will be on Monday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. in the town hall.
