FREDERICKSBURG — Major William R. “Bill” Griggs, USMC (Ret.), 79, passed away on Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, at his residence.

Mr. Griggs was a retired U.S. Marine Corps veteran having served during Vietnam.

He also retired from the U. S. Postal Service, and was a member of Falmouth Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Thames Griggs.

Survivors include sons, David William Griggs and his wife, Amy, of Stafford; and Paul MacArthur Griggs of Fredericksburg; daughters, Laura Marie Griggs Hatch and her husband, Bill, of Franklin; and Kelly Jean Griggs Shelton and her husband, Cameron, of Falmouth; grandchildren, Justin Griggs, Jordan Griggs, Emily Griggs, Aiden Hatch and Olivia Hatch; brother, Robert Griggs of Wilmington, North Carolina; and sister, Dorothy Harms and husband, Walter of Anaheim, California; and several nieces and nephews.

The Celebration of Life service will be at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 30, in Falmouth Baptist Church with the Rev. Leslie A. Powers officiating. The family will hold a private interment at Quantico National Cemetery.
