FRANKLIN

The Franklin Business Center hosted a ribbon-cutting on Tuesday for its newest client, Providence Psychological Services Inc., a nondenominational Christian counseling practice headquartered in downtown Suffolk, which recently expanded into the Franklin area.
The practice’s new office, which opened following the closing of their Holland, Suffolk branch, is located in Suite 203 of the Business Center at 601 N. Mechanic St., Franklin. The ceremony featured Franklin Mayor Frank Rabil as the ribbon cutter. Also invited was Phillip Boston, the probation officer for Southampton County Courts in Franklin, who has given the practice several referrals.
“He’s been inspirational to us,” said Wanda Porter, the practice’s administrative coordinator.
According to Porter, the Franklin office will have two therapists and one licensed social worker, offering 45-minute to one-hour sessions. Porter added that the therapists are psychologists, not psychiatrists, and as such, cannot prescribe medication.
According to the practice’s website, they specialize in trauma focus cognitive behavioral therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, substance abuse and sex offender treatment. The practice’s owner, Kawanna E. Ward, is a licensed clinical social worker, certified sex offender treatment provider, certified substance abuse counselor, registered play therapist and certified clinical supervisor with the National Association of Social Workers.
They also provide services for depression, anxiety, trauma, oppositional defiance, juvenile delinquency, drug abuse, family issues, parent/child issues, relationship issues, family violence, military issues, sexual abuse, anger management, attachment, grief and loss, ADHD/ADD, and sexuality.
