EURE, N.C. — Robert Louis “Bobby” Harrell Sr., 82, of 1292 NC Hwy 137, died on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, in his home.
Mr. Harrell was born in Gates County on Nov. 27, 1934, and was the son of the late Jewel Randolph and Nellie Mullen Harrell.
Raised in the fellowship of Cool Spring Baptist Church, in the 1950’s, he pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies before returning home to farm, and later retired from the Roll Finishing Department at Union Camp Corp. in Franklin, Virginia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Randolph and Joe Duke Harrell; and by his brother-in-law, Ray Doughtie.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Jean Harrell; three daughters, Bobbie Jean Wynns and husband, Joe, of Buies Creek; Deborah Anne Forehand and husband, Randy, of Suffolk, Virginia; and Bonnie Lou Snyder and husband, David, of Randleman; three sons, Robert L. Harrell Jr. and wife, Judy, of Aydlett; Steven P. Harrell and wife, Pascale, of Eure; and Mark D. Harrell of Greensboro; his sister, Iris H. Doughtie of Gatesville; a sister-in-law, O’Neill Harrell of Eure; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be on Tuesday, Dec. 27, at 2 p.m. in Cool Spring Baptist Church, and will be officiated by the Rev. Joseph B. Wynns and the Rev. Joe McKnight. Burial will follow on the family plot in the church cemetery.
Friends may join the family on Monday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, and other times at the residence.
