Rawls Museum Arts, a partner of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, recently presented a production by storyteller Lynn Ruehlmann and cellist Peter Greydanus of “Love is Greek to Me!” This production was sponsored in part by the Virginia Commission for Arts Support. The evening of Dec. 12, approximately 36 people attended the first adult storytelling event at Rawls Museum Arts.

It was a rollicking story of parallel loves told with humor. We all know bits of Greek myths, but how often do we get to see how remarkably pertinent they are to contemporary life? And how often do we have a chance to see how much those connections to myth can enlighten and deepen how we see our own lives?

This hour-long show wove together the myth-adventure of the marriage of Psyche and Eros with some of the contemporary adventures of storyteller Lynn Ruehlmann and her husband during the lifetime they have spent together.

One of the most exciting elements of this show was that Peter Greydanus, who is a cellist for the Norfolk and Richmond symphonies, wove music in and out of the storytelling throughout the show.

The audience was captivated and due to the overwhelming response Rawls Museum Arts is in the works to bring another storytelling event back to Courtland in the fall. Thanks to all of those who attended and worked to make this a wonderful evening including our event sponsors.
